Many of us are choosing to book an apartment over a conventional hotel room. Whether it’s for business or pleasure, the flexibility of staying in an apartment can be very appealing to families, party groups, couples and those travelling solo. The main reasons being extra space, a kitchen, separate seating area’s and often the use of more than one bath/shower room. Also, booking an apartment for multiple occupancies, can, in fact, work out more cost effective.
Liverpool is experiencing an increase in the redevelopment of often dilapidated buildings that are being transformed into welcoming apartments or apart-hotels, in prime locations throughout the city. However, the ‘Pioneer’s’ in this industry are property magnets Signature Living, who thought of the concept back in 2004 and opened the doors to their first serviced apartments in 2008.
I was in the process of arranging an informal social networking event with a group of 18 ladies and decided that I wanted to book a spacious apartment as opposed to the usual boring function room. That way if anyone did want to indulge in a few wines, they could avoid driving or the cost of a taxi and stay over.
Having searched online, I came across Signature Living’s ‘Iconic Penthouse’ situated in their Bold Street development. It looked perfect and could sleep up to 20 people and had plenty of living space, which we would need for our planned hair and makeup demonstrations.
I decided to go ahead with the booking and called direct to secure the apartment at a cost of £500. Between 18 of us, this worked out at £28 per person so was also ‘great value’! Having viewed the description online and images, I was getting excited for our ‘Girlie Evening’! I was also pleased to see good reviews of the apartments on Trip Advisor.
Upon entering, I was really impressed the original sweeping staircase, with obligatory red carpet. We were then shown to our apartment by a lovely lady and were instantly in awe of the lavishly decorated apartment sprawled over 2 floors. It definitely earned its ‘Iconic’ name!
This apartment has it all 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with ‘The Marilyn Monroe’ boasting a double bed with a single daybed, double cubicle shower room with 3 showers plus a 32-inch Plasma and an iPod docking station.
The Audrey Hepburn, which is located next to the Marilyn bedroom, has 2 double beds, a bathroom with a shower and also has a 32-inch Plasma. These two bedrooms can actually be rented individually and on a daily basis.
The John Lennon bedroom has 4 single beds that can link together to form two Queen sized beds so has flexible sleeping arrangments and also has a 32-inch plasma.
My favourite, The Jim Morrison bedroom has 5 single beds and a double bed, and as expected, also has a 32-inch plasma.

The John Lennon and Jim Morrison bedroom’s share a large bathroom with a double whirlpool bath with yet another plasma above the bath and a large shower cubicle shower.
The Iconic lounge in open plan and has a fully fitted kitchen with a breakfast bar, a cinema screen and a projector with a booth area that can sit up to 20 people and there is also a daybed in this room. We really took advantage of the space and well-equipped kitchen which had ample glasses for our wine and fizz, plus utensils allowing me to prepare an array of hot and cold canapes and dishes. There was also a large integrated fridge freezer, oven, hob and microwave, plus a dishwasher which came in very handy in the morning what with all the glasses and plates!
All of the rooms were spotlessly clean and the beds had fresh clean linen and an abundance of towels. Even though we were staying on a ‘school night’ which was a Thursday in August, I was surprised as to how well I slept as was expecting some disturbance, what with the location being on busy Bold Street. I didn’t hear any noise from the hen party in the next apartment either so enjoyed a great nights sleep, as did the other guests.
I can highly recommend staying at the Signature Living Apartments and will definitely be booking to stay again. However, curiosity will get the better of me and I’ll book one of their other ‘themed apartments’ to experience what that has to offer. If you decide to book, you’ll also benefit from the following:
- 24-hour reception, 7 days a week
- Friendly concierge service for your every need.
- Check in from 3pm and check out up to 11.00am
- Daily housekeeping, that’s included in daily rate.
- All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms.
NB Minimum two-day stay of a weekend.
Prices do vary depending on the size and location of the apartment. I would recommend calling Signature Living direct for best available prices. If you do stay, you’re in for a rather fabulous time!
